Anchorage International Airport (ANC) is a major international airport in Alaska of the United States. It is the busiest airport in Alaska for passenger traffic and serves as a hub for Alaskan Airlines.
It is named after Ted Stevens, a senator for Alaska between 1968-2009. The majority of flights serviced are to Fairbanks, Alaska and Seattle, Washington. The airport is located 5mi (8km) southwest of downtown Anchorage.
The airport has two terminals. The South Terminal and the North Terminal.
South Terminal: All regional intrastate carriers use the South Terminal. It contains three Concourses A, B, and C, and has three levels.
Ground Level 1 is where the baggage claim area and arrivals hall are located. Level 2, is the location of the check-in area and boarding gates. Level 3 has a mezzanine area.
North Terminal: Used for all international seasonal charter flights. It has three levels. Gates N (N1-N8) are located down a pier-shaped hallway on the west side of the terminal building.
On Level 1 of the North Terminal, is the check-in area, baggage claim, and customs screening. On Level 2, is the location of the boarding gates and a second customs screening area. On Level 3, there are three airport lounges where passengers can relax and unwind.
A free shuttle bus runs every 15 minutes between the North and South terminals.
There is also a landside inter-terminal walkway between the south-end of the North Terminal, and the north-end of the South Terminal.
There are not any airside connections available between the two terminals.
In the South Terminal, there are several shops and restaurants for travelers to enjoy. There is a newsstand and fast food outlet located in the pre-security area. However, most shops at the airport are located past the security area.
Past the security area are cafes, fast food restaurants, specialty cuisine, sit-down restaurants and licensed bars. There are also shops at the airport featuring electronics, fashion and accessories, and seasonal apparel gear for cold weather climates.
There is a military airport lounge located centrally within the South Terminal.
The North Terminal offers a convenience store in the pre-security area and duty-free shopping once past security. There are three airport lounges located on the upper third floor of the terminal, including a designated smoking lounge.
Bus: Public bus Route 40 runs services between the airport and downtown Anchorage. Services operate between 6:00am-12:00am with buses arriving every 15 minutes. Weekend service operates between 8:00am-8:00pm.
Taxi: Taxi services are available in front of both terminals, on ground floor level.
Rental cars: Several companies have operations at the Rental Car Center that is located across from the South Terminal. There is a free shuttle bus that runs between the South Terminal, North Terminal, and the Rental Car Center, every 15 minutes.
Parking: There is short-term parking located directly opposite the North Terminal. At the South Terminal, there is a short-term parking garage opposite the terminal, and a long-term parking lot located further to the north. A cell phone waiting area is available for guests picking up passengers. It is next to the Park Ride and Fly lot, which offers a free shuttle bus service to the terminals.
