The United Kingdom is home to a number of the busiest airports in Europe, with London being one of the largest aviation hubs in the world. London is actually where you find four of the five busiest airports in the country. Number one on the list is London Heathrow Airport, which is located about 23 kilometers from the most central parts of London. This is the primary hub for flag carrier British Airways and from Heathrow you can easily reach most parts of the world by direct flight.
The second largest airport in the UK is London Gatwick, which is located south of the British capital. The airport has more than 200 non-stop destinations – the majority of them being found in Europe. The busiest airport outside of London is Manchester Airport, and this is also the third busiest airport in the country.
As previously mentioned, London features four large airports with the addition of London Stansted and London Luton. Stansted is the base for a number of low-cost carriers, and is for example the largest base for Ryanair. Both Stansted and Luton almost exclusively offer flights within the European borders.
If we take a look outside of England, the biggest airport is found in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. Edinburgh Airport mainly has connections to other parts of Europe and some parts of the US.
