Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) is a major international airport serving Buffalo and Niagara Falls of New York, United States as well as the nearby Golden Horseshoe region of southern Ontario, Canada. It is the third-busiest airport in the state of New York and the busiest within the Buffalo-Niagara metropolitan area.
The airport is located in Cheektowaga, New York, approximately 11 miles (18km) east of Downtown Buffalo and nearly 60 miles (97km) southeast of Toronto, Ontario. It’s proximity to the Canadian border make it a popular airport for Canadians traveling to U.S. destinations.
The airport consists of a single terminal building with two levels. The upper level is used for Departures and the lower level is used for Arrivals.
Located next to the pick-up and drop off area as shown in our map, is the front entrance to the terminal building. Inside are located the ticketing counters. Beyond there is a security checkpoint, past which are the boarding gates for Departures.
The boarding gates are numbered in ascending order from right to left, facing the airside of the terminal.
On the lower level, the baggage claim area in the Arrivals Hall leads directly to the ground floor entrance where ground transportation services can be found.
There are a wide variety of places where you can eat while at the airport. These include popular coffee shops, cafes, fresh food markets that include packaged foods for takeaway, and restaurants that feature pizza, hamburgers and many other family friendly menu items. There is also a bar located on the upper level complete with table service featuring chicken wings.
Shops at the airport include convenience items, travel essentials, newsstands, souvenirs, gifts and speciality retailers.
Note that the airport is a cash-free facility, however there are some vending machines that offer food and drink which do accept cash purchases.
Bus: Metro bus service runs from the airport and conveniently services the downtown Buffalo and Niagara Falls region.
Taxi: Several taxis are available at the airport, including those that offer cross-border services to the Canadian side of the border.
Ridesharing: The designated pickup area for ridesharing services is closest to carousel 1 of the baggage claim area on the ground floor of the Arrivals Hall.
Rental cars: Several rental car companies operate at the airport. Their counters are located across from the main entrance to the terminal building, in the parking garage.
