Portugal’s air travel infrastructure makes it easy to explore this beautiful country as well as connect with many other countries around Europe and across the globe. By using the airport network in Portugal, travelers can make connections to destinations in North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the rest of Europe.

The country’s busiest airport can be found in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal and the nation’s most populous metropolitan area. Lisbon Airport (LIS) is responsible for handling over 35 million passengers annually and is the 12th busiest airport in Europe by passenger volume. It also serves as the country’s home base for its national flag carrier, TAP Air Portugal, as well as a primary hub and focus city for low-cost carriers Ryanair and easyJet.

Lisbon Airport, also known as Humberto Delgado Airport, offers a vast array of flights to destinations all throughout the world. Travelers can obtain direct flights to places such as Brazil, Paraguay, the West Coast of the United States, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and China.

Meanwhile, located in Porto, towards the northern region of Portugal is Porto Airport (OPO). It is the second busiest airport in Portugal. The city of Porto is known for its port wine, historic sites and scenic river cruises. Travelers using this airport can reach destinations as far away and abroad as the east coast of North America in places such as New York, Boston, Toronto and Montreal, as well as Brazil, and dozens of destinations across Europe.

Primarily serving Portuguese tourists that are vising the southern coastal region of the countryside, Faro Airport (FAO) is another main airport that serves the country. Unlike its larger peers to the north, Faro Airport offers select flights to destinations outside of Europe. Transatlantic services to New York and Toronto are regularly offered, as well as to the major capitals of Nordic and Scandinavian countries. However, the majority of services at this airport are for travel throughout European destinations.
